Whale Watching Tour in Balboa / Newport Beach

While we were planning our trip to California we wanted to do some different things. It seems like when we go to California we do the usual Disneyland visit and we thought we wanted to try some new and different things this time. So I went to Google and I searched things to do near Long beach, California. I chose around Long beach because we flew into Long beach and it seemed to be a little more centrally located to where we were staying. While I was checking out things to do we saw that there was a whale watching tour and we all thought how fun. So we decided to try the Whale Watching tour.
It was fun because we had to drive out to Balboa / Newport beach to load onto the boat. I had never been to Balboa / Newport beach before so it was alot of fun just driving out there. It was so pretty along the way and it was so nice. Once we got into the little resort town we had to drive the car on a ferry to take us across a small channel of the ocean to the loading dock. This was fun - it was just a small ferry that only holds 3 cars at a time and numerous passengers that either walk or ride their bikes. It was just a fun, carefree place. Everyone just kinda mingled along and was just enjoying the surroundings. Michael got out and took a picture of us riding across the ferry in the car. I think it was $5.00 a car to cart you across the ocean channel. You could definitely tell that this is a money town that is for sure. :)

Once we got over to the Island we got checked in and then we stopped into a little bakery for some breakfast. They had yummy croissant sandwiches and yummy donuts. While we were in eating our croissant sandwiches a bunch of teenage boys came in for breakfast as well. Just the local boys out spending the weekend at the family beachfront properties. It looked like alot of fun. I would love to live somewhere like this, just being able to go out and play in the water on the weekends.

It was fun riding the boat out past all of the docked sailboats and yachts. It was just a nice enjoyable day. We couldn't have asked for better weather.

They took us out into the ocean and just drove around looking for whales or for some dolphins. We rode out a ways and then they spotted some dolphins, so they took us over to see the dolphins at a closer look. The dolphins were just funny and so carefree. They would swim right up to the boat. They weren't afraid of us at all, or at least they didn't seem to be afraid. They are definitely a show off type of animal. They were just cute and it was so fun to watch them. They would go behind the boat and jump the waves. They were having a great time. I was surprised at how many dolphins we saw and how close the would come to the boat. We stayed out at watched the dolphins for quite awhile. It was just fun and relaxing to watch them.


They tried to find some whales for us to see, but we didn't spot any! Bummer! Maybe the next time we go out and do a whale watching tour. They can never guarantee that you will see one, but they certainly try! :) It was just alot of fun.

It was also alot of fun just watching the other boats out on the water as well. It just looks so fun and so relaxing. Everyone out on the ocean just seems to enjoy themselves, or at least it seems.

We started heading back to the dock and they took us over to a buoy to see some of the Sea lions. They are such stinky animals, but they are fun to watch and look at. I guess they like to climb up on the buoy and sun bath. They will sit out there for hours.
They are kinda cute little animals.

Its always fun to go out and see new things. We had a great time and we want to go back and do it again. We are just praying we will see whales the next time!
